Walking on the social networking path, the Blekko has integrated the Facebook Likes to its search results. The Blekko is in its beta phase, but still it looks impressive.
In the meanwhile, the Microsoft Corp. has also added the Facebook Likes to the Bing search results earlier this Wednesday.
The Blekko is trying its best to differentiate itself from Bing, Yahoo, and Google by reducing the unwanted and spam search results with the help of “slashtags”. The slashtag is defined as the term appended to the keyword. In “search engine generation /third”, /third is the slashtag. Using slashtags, the Blekko limits the search to the appropriate areas of interest and include the search results from the trusted domains only.
From now on, the users have to login at the Blekko via Facebook Connect to see whether their friends have Liked a particular search result or not. The logged-in users have the option to view only those results that are blessed by their friends as Likes. For doing this, they have to append the “/likes” to the search query. They are free to append the “/likes” with other slashtags as well. We really like this facility as it is not available in the Bing’s Facebook Integration.
The search engine claims that nearly 50,000 slashtags have been created till now. Rich Skrenta, Chief Executive (Blekko) says, “Millions of Facebook users are marking the most loved brands, restaurants, travel, commerce, and content as Like or Dislike. We’ve used this extensive data and applied to the Blekoo’s search results making them spam free and relevant”.
The Google was the first social search engine as the URLs were created by humans only. Today, the links are generated by spammers, and robot programs. Blekko is trying to make the situation better through the usage of social platforms, especially social networking giant – Facebook. We hope that more number of users will use the Blekko to make this search engine better and helps to stop the spam results.
